The link between Lamon and the bean has ancient roots. It is in fact between 1528 and 1532 that the humanist Pietro Valeriano brought this legume to the plateau, which arrived in Europe after the discovery of America, as a gift from the papal court. In Lamon the plants find an optimal habitat and the beans they produce are a real delicacy, with a very thin rind and tender flesh. The precious legume, popularly called "the meat of the poor" for its richness of proteins, five hundred years after its arrival in Lamon, is the undisputed prince of the tables of the plateau in its most widespread variants: Spagnolit, Spagnoloe, Calonega and Canalin. They are the protagonists of the famous "Bean Festival" that animates Lamon every third weekend in September. A real triumph of flavours that attracts tens of thousands of gourmets and which is an opportunity to taste other Lamon specialities such as smoked sheep. The event, which is divided into three days, is characterized by a rich calendar of events dedicated to the discovery and knowledge of the cultural and traditional heritage of the territory.
