The archaeological discoveries

lamon-the archaeological discoveries

Between the eighteenth century and the last century several localities in the Lamonese territory were the site of numerous archaeological discoveries from different periods.

In particular in the area of San Donato, at the end of the so-called "Via Pagana" route, extremely significant archaeological artefacts have come to light over the last century and a half: just think of the two coins of Constantine the First, found in the cave of the "Bus de la bèla", or the necropolis that came to light in the "Piasentot" area since April 2000.

Findings have also emerged in other areas of the municipal territory, such as in the centre of Lamon.

From the late nineteenth century between the top of the hill of San Pietro and the areas close to the town were found - among others - imperial coins, fragments of statues, remains of sepulchres, jewelry.

These are evidences that help to understand how important the area was, and characterized in Roman times by a substantial settlement, perhaps justified by the passage of an important road such as the Via Claudia Augusta.
